Cabot High School science teacher Dwight Daugherty will be honored during the Cabot Scholarship Foundation’s Roast and Toast Banquet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 7 in the Cabot Junior High North cafeteria.

Tickets are $30 per person and a table of eight is $240. Tickets can be purchased at the Cabot High School office.

The Cabot Scholarship Foundation will award more than 116 Cabot High School seniors with more than $119,300 in scholarships. Last year, the foundation awarded 109 seniors with $112,550 in scholarships.

Dwight Daugherty is a high school AP chemistry and physics teacher. He has been with the district for 20 years and will retire at the end of the school year.

He has been involved with NASA. He applied for an astronaut position and was a finalist in 2003. He has witnessed two space-shuttle launches and has met most of the Apollo-era astronauts.

Daugherty has been recognized during his career for his hard work and dedication to education with several national and state awards. He was the motivation behind the Cabot AP Academy and the employee scholarship payroll drive. School district employees voluntarily deduct money, in any amount they choose, out of their paychecks to help raise thousands of dollars in scholarships for Cabot seniors.

The Cabot Scholarship Foundation has a new scholarship, the Calvin Carlisle Memorial Scholarship, which is a $1,000 scholarship to be awarded annually to a hardworking high school senior.

Calvin Carlisle was an owner of C&M Development in Cabot, which develops residential and commercial property.

Carlisle’s wife, Leann, with business partners James and Deborah Moore, are excited about the opportunity to honor Carlisle’s life and legacy.

The Cabot Scholarship Foundation was formed in 1992 by the Cabot Centennial Committee to encourage and recognize academics in Cabot schools.

The roast-and-toast banquet is the foundation’s only fundraising event. Donations are accepted throughout the year at Cabot Scholarship Foundation, 200 W. Main St., Cabot, Ark. 72023.
