Hwy. 67/167 Kiehl exit will be closed Tuesday

Crews working on the Highway 67/167 project in Sherwood will close the northbound Kiehl Exit (Exit 5) on Tuesday morning, according to Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department officials.

Weather permitting, the closure will occur between 7:00 a.m. and noon as workers pour concrete for the Brookswood flyover. In case of inclement weather, the closure will occur the next available day. Drivers should exit at Wildwood and travel the frontage road to Kiehl.


Women’s exercise classes to begin in Jacksonville

Orientation for the Pulaski County Cooperative Extension Service’s “Strong Women” strength-training exercise classes will be held from 8:30-10 a.m. Wednesday at the Jacksonville First Electric Cooperative at 1000 South JP Wright Loop Road. Classes will be held at 8:30-9:30 a.m. Wednesdays and Fridays at the First Electric cooperative starting Wednesday, Feb.6. Call or e-mail Treena Musselman at the Pulaski County Extension Service at 501-340-6650 or tmusselman@uaex.edu to register for classes. A fee of $5 will be collected.

Ward Senior Citizens to have Tuesday lunch hour

Ward Senior Citizens invites area seniors to meet at 11:30 a.m. the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month for brownbag lunch (coffee, tea, soft drinks and desserts provided for $1). Dominoes, card games, exercise and activities follow each lunch meeting. Please join us starting this Tuesday at Ward Municipal Complex.

Heating assistance applications are available now

Central Arkansas Development Council will begin accepting applications for the Winter Home Energy Assistance Program on Tuesday. This program assists households with home energy and heating bills. The eligible household must meet income guidelines and furnish proof of all household income for the month before application.
All households receiving food stamps are potentially eligible to receive this assistance; however, the program is not limited to food stamp recipients. Applications are accepted Monday through Wednesday from 8 a.m. to Noon. Contact the CADC Lonoke Office at 117 S. E. Front St. or at 501-676-0019 for more information.

Jacksonville HS parents’ help needed for survey

The Arkansas Department of Education will conduct a Scholastic Audit at Jacksonville High School during the week of January 14-18. This is in compliance with No Child Left Behind legislation and Jacksonville High School’s school improvement status. Parents are being asked to complete a survey and participate in interviews with the auditors January 14-16 from 7:30-8:30 a.m. or 3-4 p.m. If you have any questions or would like to set up a parent interview, call the school at 982-2128.

Cabot Chamber’s banquet RSVP deadline is near

The Cabot Chamber of Commerce annual banquet will hold its annual membership banquet Friday, Jan. 18 with a reception at 6 p.m. and dinner at 7 p.m. at the Veterans Park Community Center. Gov. Mike Beebe will be the special guest speaker. If you have not yet made your reservation, time is running out.  The last day to RSVP is Tuesday by 4:30 p.m.
