Ronnie Sammons

Ronnie “Kenny” Sammons, 29, of Ward passed away Jan. 2.

He was born July 2, 1978 in Searcy, to Joyce Ragan of Ward and Ronnie Sammons. Kenny attended Greenwood Missionary Baptist Church in Butlerville and was em-ployed by Cabot Public Schools.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Gracie and Clarence Haley and Maggie Sammons; his brother, Larry Ragen, and stepfather, Earnest Ragan.

Survivors include his loving mother, Joyce; stepbrothers, James Ragan and Michael Ragen; stepsisters Patty Bridges, Rosana (Bobby) Davis;  sister in-law, Linda Ragan; grandfather, Frank Sammons; aunts and uncles, Alice Knocke, J. C. (Jean) Haley, John (Joyce Ann) Haley all of Ward, Oscar (Martha) Haley of Romance, Christine Toone of Lonoke, Frances (Freddie) Pitts of Austin, Irene Kean of Little Rock, James (Betty) Haley of California and Geneva Haley of Judsonia.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Greenwood Missionary Baptist Church with Bro. Freddie Crook officiating.  Interment will follow at Butlerville Cemetery.  Visitation will be at Moore’s Cabot Funeral Home from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mexico Missions at Greenwood Missionary Baptist Church, 11228 Hwy. 38, Ward, Ark. 72176.

Esther Conley

Esther Marguerite Conley, 77, of Jacksonville, passed away Jan. 3 in North Little Rock.  

She was born May 26, 1930 in Judsonia to the late George and Wilma Murphree Louks. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, A.G. Louks, J.W. Louks and Carlon Louks, and a sister, Emogene Rousey.

Esther was a member of High-way Baptist Church. She retired from Little Rock Accessory Co.

Survivors include her husband, Carl Conley of Jackson-ville; three daughters, Marilyn Vann and her husband Derrell of Jacksonville, Carolyn Porter and her husband Eddie of Jacksonville, and Jo Ellen Long and her husband Randall; son, Gary Conley and his wife Angie of Ward; brothers, Virgil Louks and his wife Bobby Nell of Judsonia and Ruben Louks and his wife Martha of Montgomery, Ala.; sister, Hazel Vierow of North Highlands, Calif.; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 5 at Second Baptist Church in Jacksonville with Rev. Larry Ballard and Rev. Steve Walter officiating.

Entombment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Park.  Arrangements by Moore’s Jacksonville Funeral Home.


Alice Catlett-Hillman

Alice Charlene Catlett-Hillman, of Shreveport, La., went to be with the Lord, Dec. 29, 2007 at her home.

She was born Jan. 5, 1952 in Cherry Valley, to Veda C. Robertson Catlett and the late Walter Leon Catlett. She was a devout Christian who loved people and spent her life enriching those around her.

Survivors include her loving husband, Al Hillman, of Shreveport, La.; two daughters, Sheila Clark and husband Jon, and Kimberly Hendrix and her husband Matt; a son, Al “Bubba” Hillman Jr. and his wife Rebecca, all of Cabot; brother, Michael “Buddy” Catlett and wife Ann of Jacksonville; a sister, Maxine Robbins and her husband Charles of Searcy; eight grandchildren, Constance and Tiffany Clark, Joshua, Jonathan, Jeremy and Jazmyne Garcia, A.J., Darren and Jacob Hillman; two step-grandchildren, Britt and Aaron Hendrix, as well as many wonderful, loving aunts, uncles and cousins.

The family wishes to give special thanks to Dr. Timothy Nichols as well as Life Care and their staff at the Linwood facility in Shreveport, La, for the excellent care they all provided.

Funeral services were Jan. 1 at Grace Fellowship Church in Cabot. Interment followed at Arkansas Memorial Gardens in North Little Rock.

Asher Stroope

Asher Haiden Stroope, infant son of Jeff and Shanna Wheeler Stroope of Cabot, died Friday, Dec 28.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Parker Aiden Stroope. In addition to his parents, Asher is survived by one sister, Courtney Stroope; two brothers, Brandon Stroope and Hunter Edwards, as well as grandparents, Odis and Evonne Blackmon of Hooks, Texas, and Bill and Carol Stroope of Pearcy and several aunts and uncles.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5 at New Life Church in Cabot with Tim Gaddy, Dennis Anderson and Odis Blackmon officiating.

Burial will follow at 3 p.m. in Oakgrove Cemetery in Wickes. Arrangements are by Cabot Funeral Home.


Pauline Gann

Pauline Mullins Gann, 82, of Cabot died Wednesday, Jan. 2. Surviving are her sons, Elbert F. Mullins and his wife Margaret of Cabot, and Gordon Wayne Mullins and his wife Dorothy of Hattieville; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are 11 a.m. today at Powell Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Lampkin Cemetery near Newport.

Othella Peters

Othella Whitfield Peters, 82, of Jacksonville passed from this life Dec. 29 following a 20-year battle with cancer. She was born in Percy on April 22, 1925.

She was the daughter of the late Floyd and Lena Whitfield. Mrs. Peters was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church. She was a devoted wife and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Mrs. Peters worked as an accountant in the early years of her marriage.

She was a companion in ministry with her husband for more than 30 years.

Mrs. Peters was active in all levels of the United Methodist Church in Arkansas. She was a leader in the United Methodist Women serving on the mission’s planning team that organized the Arkansas School of Christian Mission held annually for the Arkansas area of the United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Peters served on the old North Arkansas Conference Nomination Committee of the United Methodist Women and the nomination committee of the old North Arkansas Annual Conference.

She provided leadership for the UMW organization in local churches served by her husband. She also researched the family genealogy and enjoyed passing down family stories from previous generations.

Mrs. Peters’ grandfather was instrumental in the development of Bethel UMC more than 100 years ago.


Justin Guppy

Justin Michael Guppy, 15, of Lonoke, died Jan. 4.  He was born Jan. 18, 1992 to David and Tonia Guppy.
He was a member of the First Freedom Baptist Church and was always happy.   

Justin is survived by his parents; grandmother, Frances Smith of Cabot; brothers, David and Shane Capes of Beebe and Blake Lockhart of Little Rock.  

Funeral Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8 in the chapel of Moore’s Cabot Funeral Home with interment at Mt. Carmel cemetery.  

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Monday at the Funeral Home.
