16th ANNUAL SHERWOOD MAYOR'S PRAYER BREAKFAST

The 16th annual Sherwood Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast is set for 7 a.m. Tuesday. The serving line will open at 6:45 a.m. The cost is $8 per person. The event is for business and community leaders, pastors and staff members, lay people and others from all faiths.

Mayor Virginia Hillman encourages everyone to attend and be a part of what everyone can do — pray.

The fundraiser helps purchase vision-screening devices for Cabot schools, provides eyeglasses and surgeries to Cabot-area residents, as well as provides diabetes education and environmental projects, according to Lion Jackie Jones.

The Little Rock Air Base Fitness Center Sports Day is set for Friday, May 18. The event, open to everyone in the base community, celebrates health and fitness with nonstop activities. Area businesses are sought to sponsor Sports Day.

CEMETERY ASSOCIATIONS WILL HOLD EVENTS THIS WEEK

The Concord Cemetery Association will hold its annual meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Family Life Center at Concord United Methodist Church. People who own lots in the cemetery are invited. 

Anyone who owns lots or who have family buried in the cemetery are encouraged to contribute to its maintenance and upkeep. Contributions should be mailed to the Concord Cemetery Association, c/o Karol DePriest, 436 Furlow Loop, Lonoke, Ark., 72086.

– The Bayou Meto Cemetery Association will hold its annual decoration event from 9 to 5 p.m. next Saturday and Sunday. The cemetery is at North First Street in Jacksonville.

JACKSONVILLE SERTOMA CLUB CELEBRATES 100 YEARS

Jacksonville Sertoma Club will mark its national organization’s 100th anniversary at noon next Wednesday at the Dupree Park pavilion. Lunch will be served.

Jacksonville Sertoma Club was chartered on Feb. 26, 1954. The Sertoma Club is the second oldest civic-service club in Jacksonville and is a leader in youth and family recreation projects. For more information, call Kristen Kennon at 501-982-4171.


JHS CLASS OF 1952's 60-YEAR REUNION SATURDAY

WILDMAN WILSON AT BEEBE BANQUET ON MAY 24

Tickets are available for the Beebe Chamber of Commerce’s annual awards banquet Thursday, May 24. The dinner will be held in the Arkansas State University Student Center.

Tickets can be purchased at the following banks: Regions, First Security, Centennial and Simmons. Tickets are also available at BCC Freight Haulers and the chamber office. Steve “Wildman” Wilson of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission will speak. The silent auction will begin at 6 p.m., and the auction at 7 p.m.

Awards will be given to the citizen of the year and educator of the year. A lifetime-achievement award will also be presented.


EL PASO FISH FRY FRIDAY BENEFITS PARKS, PLAYGROUND

The annual El Paso community fish fry will be held at 6 p.m. Friday in the community center. Donations to benefit the town’s parks and playground will be accepted at the door.


WARD SENIOR CITIZENS POTLUCK LUNCH THURSDAY

Ward senior citizens will begin holding a potluck lunch every week at noon on Thursdays in the Ward City Complex cafeteria.

Bring a favorite dish and $1, and enjoy dominoes and other games after lunch.
