BETTY MOORE

Betty Wilson Moore, 78, of Dundee, Miss., passed away Feb. 23 at home surrounded by her family.

Born in Furlow, Betty was a retired grocery store owner and homemaker, having worked for years side by side with her husband, Vance, farming and raising their sons.

The second passion of her life was fishing. Being the avid fisher “lady” she was, Betty always took pride in the catch of the day, no matter how big or small. Not only a fisher of fish, but of people, telling numerous stories of her childhood.

Until illness took her passion, she and Vance spent their retirement days on the banks of Maddox Bay in a quaint camping trailer they called home, fishing every lake known and unknown to any other person.

A member of Concord United Methodist Church, she was predeceased in death by her parents, “Fate” and Jennie Wilson; a brother, VanDoyne; a sister, Faye Evelyn; a brother, John L. Wilson; a sister, Mildred “Sister” O’Cain; a brother, Al Wilson, and a sister, Lina Belle “Tiny” Havens.

Betty is survived by her husband of 61 years, Vance Moore, of Dundee, Miss.; two sons, Ricky Moore and his wife Holly of Hernando, Miss., and Randy Moore and his wife Linda Whitson of Houston, Texas; three brothers, Bill Wilson and Leo Wilson and his wife Bernice of Lonoke, Van Kelly Wilson and his wife Bobbie of Phoenix, Ariz., and a sister-in-law, Edith Wilson and her husband Al of Lonoke, four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins, who loved her dearly.

Visitation will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25 at Concord United Methodist Church in Furlow. The funeral will follow at 2:30 p.m. at the church, with burial in Concord Cemetery.

Arrangements are by Boyd Funeral Home in Lonoke.

The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Concord United Methodist Church, 150 Concord Road, Lonoke, Ark., 72086.

SHAW WILSON

Shaw Wilson, 82, of Jacksonville passed away Feb. 22 in Cabot.

He was born Jan. 1, 1930, in Hot Springs to the late Mack and Virgie Shaw Wilson.

On July 3, 1951, he married Mary Cockrell in Wilson. Shaw graduated from the University of Arkansas in 1958 with a B.A. in business and accounting.

He served in the Army during the Korean War. Shaw retired from the Central Arkansas Substance Abuse Program as executive director on June 28,1996.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Wilson, of the home; two brothers, Virgil Wilson and her husband Judy of Bend, Ore., Joe Wilson and his wife Elinor of Ventura, Calif.; a sister, Laura Stiles, of Hot Springs; a brother-in-law, Barney Cockrell, and his wife Bettye of Jacksonville; a sister in law, Barbara Kizer, of Las Vegas, Nev., 10 nieces and nephews, and numerous great-nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 25 at Moore’s Jacksonville Funeral Home Chapel, with Bro. John Sammons and Bro. Cliff Hutchins officiating. Entombment will follow in Chapel Hill Mausoleum.

The family requests memorials may be made to Arkansas Hospice. Arrangements are by Moore’s Jacksonville Funeral Home.

KRISTY LEA

Kristy Berry Lea, 33, of North Little Rock went to be with the Lord on Feb. 20.

She was a great fisher, who always out-fished everyone.

Kristy loved collecting. Her collections included Coca-Cola, dolphins and jewelry. Her children were her life.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Bill and Veneda Bass, and Raymond and Ruth Berry.

Kristy is survived by her children, Amber and Christopher Goad; her parents, Jerry and Anita Berry; one brother, Michael; two aunts, Carol Berry and Barbara Wakefield; one cousin, James Wakefield, and several other cousins and friends.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Westbrook Funeral Home in Beebe.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 27 at Landmark Missionary Baptist Church in Rose City, with burial in Forest Hills Memorial Park.

JACK SPELLS

Jack E. Spells, 69, of Austin, born Dec. 11, 1942, in Ft. Pierce, Fla., to James and Jenelva Spells, passed away Feb. 20.

He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother.

He leaves behind his wife, Donna W. Spells; one daughter, Jeana Recard, and two sons, Jack E. Spells Jr. and Arless Wade Spells. He is also survived by one sister, four brothers and two grandchildren.

Arrangements are by Arkansas Funeral Care in Jacksonville.
